I think it at least flirts with being the great film some think it is, but it ultimately gets mired in itself and the results make the eyes roll. I still loved Swinton and thought some shots were divine.Jakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09078001374402400232noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-494160638739613756.post-76656430599075144972010-12-30T14:28:32.924-05:002010-12-30T14:28:32.924-05:00I liked this marginally more than you did, though ...I liked this marginally more than you did, though considerably less than its most passionate admirers. Obsessive love is (I'm told) always deeply serious to the involved parties and deeply ridiculous to anyone watching from the sidelines, and the film captures this dichotomy very authentically while still inevitably coming across a tad silly. (The sex-scene-in-Mother-Nature sequence lacks only stock footage of stampeding wildebeests.) In retrospect, though, I admired how organically the affair developed out of a series of happenstances, and how Swinton's estrangement from her family was expressed entirely visually. Not bad.Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01450775188328918558noreply@blogger.com
