...I was surprised at how interesting the movie was.
My Opinion: This is truly the deepest and, well, only account of the 70's adult film business and it was a fine movie, it's definitely not an Oscar candidate but it was pretty interesting nonetheless.Information Reviewhttp://informationtypes.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-494160638739613756.post-33434898770291526532010-01-12T11:35:16.304-05:002010-01-12T11:35:16.304-05:00Yeah, BOOGIE NIGHTS is a great film and I like tha...Yeah, BOOGIE NIGHTS is a great film and I like that PTA is not afraid to show very uncomfortable moments and create characters that are complex - they aren't always likable and may do bad things but they are interesting to watch. What I also like about this film is that by the end you really feel like you've been on a journey with these characters and they've really experienced an arc in their lives that has changed them from when they were introduced at the start.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-494160638739613756.post-38674721919708300062010-01-10T18:01:23.067-05:002010-01-10T18:01:23.067-05:00It's weird, I've come to adore all of PTA&...It's weird, I've come to adore all of PTA's films, including Hard Eight, except for maybe his most celebrated, Magnolia, which I absolutely, completely abhorred. I actually reviewed this as a planned lead-in for a review of it, as Magnolia's hitting Blu-Ray in a week or so. I'm not going to buy it, of course, but I'm using the re-release as an excuse to return to it, because it's odd that I should so enjoy the rest of filmography and have such a strong negative reaction to one film.

However, I've got re-reviews of Public Enemies and Miami Vice that might come before it. Well, not so much a re-review of MV anymore, as the original was my second post and it was absolutely unorganized and sloppy and vague so I removed it a while ago but saved it elsewhere to give myself a basis of opinion for, hopefully, a more positive reaction than my lukewarm initial thoughts.Jakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09078001374402400232noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-494160638739613756.post-25048292573640144952010-01-10T17:32:46.832-05:002010-01-10T17:32:46.832-05:00Toeing the line between absurdity and epic tragedy...Toeing the line between absurdity and epic tragedy, Boogie Nights charts the rise and fall of the Me Generation through the highs and lows of the pornography industry, the snowblind cocaine binge of its stars a microcosm for the nation's own drug escapism and the effect of the VHS tape on the business representative of the Reagonomic turn to cold, pragmatic capitalism above all else.

Wow. Lots packed in that sentence. In a good way. Well done.

Boogie Nights is a hard film for me to watch, because I tend to cringe at stories about people who waste their lives away using drugs. But it's a great film, no question.Jason Bellamyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18150199580478147196noreply@blogger.com
