I love that starts off basically as a riff on the original INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS with Trent brought in to a hospital supposedly raving mad and then his story is told via flashback. Great stuff. I would definitely say that this was Carpenter's last truly great film.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-494160638739613756.post-52609945772134304102010-02-24T08:09:09.486-05:002010-02-24T08:09:09.486-05:00Oh, I don't think he thought it would be huge,...Oh, I don't think he thought it would be huge, but it seems like every time he tries to branch out he ends up returning to horror, which is sometimes a shame because he wanted so badly to be a broad genre filmmaker but in cases like this result in some of his finest work.Jakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09078001374402400232noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-494160638739613756.post-52019432955785956632010-02-24T00:17:12.259-05:002010-02-24T00:17:12.259-05:00"Carpenter had once again returned to horror ..."Carpenter had once again returned to horror after an attempt to branch out into another genre met with critical and commercial indifference, and the same fate would befall this feature. People were moving beyond Carpenter, even though most action/horror cinema of the '90s was a large step down from the quality of his best work, and Madness simply got lost in the shuffle."<br /><br />To be fair, there's no way in hell Carpenter made this thinking, "Oh yeah, this is gonna be as big as Halloween!" This picture is goddamn nuts. I do think it's one of his best pictures, as well as one of his most astonishingly unpredictable (although nothing for me matches the shock of what happens to the girl by the ice cream truck in Precinct 13).Doniphonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02407443845368110678noreply@blogger.com
