But after his performance here, I sought out more of his films. This is a spectacularly atmospheric, unnerving film that's as effective as a horror film, but with more drama and layers of, as you say, "sociopolitical" messages. Since I'm a true crime buff, I see the influences of real-life killer Peter Kurten here (although Lang denied these) and that undercurrent of "only capitalist societies like America have serial killers."M. It is just flawless filmmaking.Jakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09078001374402400232noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-494160638739613756.post-30471154745398147902010-05-17T21:04:46.031-04:002010-05-17T21:04:46.031-04:00Wonderful piece here, Jake, about one of the great...Wonderful piece here, Jake, about one of the greatest of all films. I'm a huge Lang fan and M remains my clear-cut #1 favorite in his entire filmography. Your point here is what sticks with me most:<br /><br />"Not only does Lang blur the line between cop and criminal..."<br /><br />I love those scenes where Lang cuts back and forth between the simultaneous councils convened by both the police and the underworld. Brilliant technique on display throughout those sequences.Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07134196370913749544noreply@blogger.com
