I've seen this même going around the blogs lately, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Unsurprisingly, picking a favorite for some letters was impossible because of the limited options (X2 was pretty much alone) or because I had so many choices (I actually wasted time stressing over whether to sub Playtime for Phantom of the Paradise, Repulsion or Rio Bravo for The Red Shoes, McCabe & Mrs. Miller for Miami Vice and The Straits of Love and Hate or Sansho the Bailiff for Sweetie). But I went with my gut and I've think I've got a decent range here. I've not repeated any directors, which was surprisingly difficult.

:)
Goddamnit, I knew I should have trusted that nagging feeling that said I missed something.
ReplyDeleteNo "Xtro" for X? Come one, man! This is a great list. Great idea for a meme, too. I might try this if I ever decide to get off my ass and start blogging again.
ReplyDeleteI kept trying to find an Asian film that started with an X in the original language (or in the Westernized version of the characters) but since I didn't do that for the other foreign films I had so few options haha.
ReplyDeleteVery cool, Jake! Many, many films I love here are represented (just got my Criterion Blu's for The Red Shoes and Yi Yi, can't wait to jump into those), as well as a few classics that I've somehow not gotten around to yet (I Was Born But..., Grand Illusion, Sweetie).
ReplyDeleteI think I may try my hand at this and throw up my own list later in the week, it should be fun to compile! Though I don't see, off the top of my head at least, how my V and Z could be different, the two you've chosen are two of my favorite movies. I always enjoy these creative meme's that go around every so often.
Yeah, X just killed me. But I would rather have limited choices than make those agonizing choices of one over the other. For a meaningless game, it really does make you sweat over the picks.

ReplyDeleteYet -2 for the VIDEODROME photo.
